Beginning of our long drive to Malacca!
It takes about 3-4 hours, depending on how fast you drive & how many stops you make.
Of course, I am not encouraging you to speed but always put SAFETY on 1st priority!
Note that we went via the Second Link from Tuas.
There was no road charge of RM 20.00 yet but it will be implemented in the near future (Who knows how long?)
So, we only paid RM 35.70 for the toll charges.
- RM 7.50 after Tuas checkpoint
- RM 3.90 at somewhere out of JB
- RM 24.30 upon reaching Malacca
When you see red buildings, you would know you are in the heart of Malacca!
It has been so long since my 1st self drive trip to Malacca. Must been about 10 years ago!?!
Anyway, I always thought we would arrive in Malacca immediately upon passing the toll gate. But I was WRONG!!!
We still had to drive further for about 20 mins to the heart of Malacca where the red buildings were located in!
We went to Jonker Walk for lunch.
At first, we wanted to try this famous chicken rice ball shop "Kedai Kopi Chung Wah" but look at the snaking queue.
We did not wanna wait in the roasting hot weather with our Luzio. So, we went to another stall "Famosa". The food was so-so.
Entrance to Jonker Walk. There were many streets which you could walk along and lots of shopping.
This was the snack shop where I bought my big batch of snacks back home and for colleagues. If you want to buy all in one, this is the shop to go.
Checked in!
The Shore Hotel & Residences was relatively new as it opened in 2014.
However, the place was shared by 2 hotels, The Shore & Swiss Garden.
The Shore Hotel had poor directions - I meant that when we arrived at the shopping centre, there was simply no signs or directions to the reception of The Shore Hotel & Residences. Everywhere, I saw signs & directions to only Swiss Garden Hotel.
So, I approached one person who was working in a watch shop. Surely he would know the difference between the 2 hotels. He pointed us to Swiss Garden Hotel. I told him it was The Shore Hotel. He nodded & said the same place?!?
Since he insisted, we went to Swiss Garden Hotel reception & queued up for check-in. After 15 mins of waiting, we were attended to. To our agony, they informed us that this is not The Shore Hotel & pointed us to the opposite direction. Actually, they were not very clear in the direction as we went back to the same spot! Finally, we asked one salesman who was selling units in The Shore Hotel & Residences. Surely he would know, ya! He directed us to the other side & we found the reception. It almost took us 1 hour in total to find the actual location upon reaching!
We booked their Premier Suite because of their bath tub! The cost for the booking was SGD 123 for one night's stay on a weekend. I felt the price was worthy but on a side note, I would not come here again. I'd rather go to Hatten Hotel which is more centrally located near Jonker Walk.
By the way, the bath tub was great except the tap. Its location was such that the tap end could not be in the exact position that water could drip inside the bath tub but instead water would drip on the bathroom floor. There was no drain hole hence the floor was a bit flooded..
So be sure to close the door so that your toddler kids won't enter & fall.
The wardrobe and the pantry. |
View from the balcony. Apparently, we are on the top 2 floors!
Hotel Mirror Selfie
Japanese cuisine for dinner!
RM 110.40, which is approximately SGD 36.60
Thanks to the weak currency, we could order as much as we liked without worrying about bursting our wallet!!!
If it were in SG, it would be about whopping more than a hundred dollars!
Pro & Con of being a Singaporean!
The reception which was hard to find! There was no direct entrance from the shopping mall, FYI.
The spectualor night view from our room!
Family Welfie!
Daddy walking with Son
When we reached the rooftop, Luzio ran towards this group of guys and sat down besides the first guy. He turned his head to look at the guy and laughed!
The guys were so amazed by him that they laughed together!
The guy besides Luzio took a selfie with him.
Lol!
Daddy, follow me!
We had some spare cash for petrol, supermarket groceries (diapers) so we thought we could use our cards to pay for the admission tickets.
Adult ticket is RM 25.00. To our dismay, the counter accepted only cash payment. God know what the management was doing for the past 2 years since the shopping centre opened!
The end of our Malacca trip.
We'll definitely visit Malacca again but maybe A'Famosa resort!

After the sky tower, we visited The Shore Oceanarium.
Yes, you guessed correctly and they also accepted cash payment, not card payments!

Adult Combo Ticket is RM 35.00.
We also paid RM 10.60 for the turtle feed.
